The reserve is home to over 350 bird species, with big game that includes elephant, rhino, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena and cheetah. Our qualified game rangers and trackers will sweep you off into the bush. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of nature on game drives and bush walks and capture that perfect photograph.
Living the dream. The lodges’ history started in 1992 following a family’s dream to live in the African bush. During their search for a suitable a piece of land, the Venter family came across a plot next to the Kuvjename River and immediately fell in love with it. So they decided to leave city life behind and move to the tranquillity of the bush. Within a few years four chalets were built for the family to live in together. Over the years Dawn, with her passionate green fingers, nurtured a lush and most serene garden with numerous indigenous trees.
Giving back to the wild. Formerly the land and the surrounding area were used for cattle farming and in 1998 the seven landowners decided to drop their fences and create a Big 5 conservancy. Gradually wild animals were re-introduced. Those were exciting days indeed, with elephants and lions strolling through the Venter’s gardens, right in front of their doorstep! Subsequently the lodge’s surrounds were fenced to keep pesky tuskers from destroying Dawn’s carefully tended gardens.
