The dining options at Kleine Zalze consist of Terroir Restaurant, our award winning, fine dining, Eat Out Top 10 Restaurant for which separate booking is essential, and The Lodge Restaurant, which is an informal bistro style eatery.
Terroir Restaurant opened in October 2004, and over the years has become one of the most sought-after gourmet destinations in the Cape Winelands, winning numerous awards since it opened. The unpretentious ambience and dressed-down décor belie multi award-winning chef Michael Broughton’s rigorously disciplined approach to food. Classic pairings and intense depth of flavour characterize the chalkboard menu of ‘deceptively simple’ dishes influenced by what’s in season and, where possible, the use of locally grown fresh produce. Care and emphasis is placed on matching the food to specific wines produced at Kleine Zalze, in the Stellenbosch region and further afield. The restaurant is located on the Kleine Zalze Estate, and is 400ms walk from the Lodge. Terroir’s setting, under historic oak trees with views over the De Zalze golf course and surrounding gardens and vineyards, is both refined and relaxed. It is the perfect environment to enjoy a fine meal paired with the world class Kleine Zalze wines.
The Lodge Restaurant is run under the guidance of Nic Van Wyk, widely acknowledged as one of South Africa’s most interesting and innovative chefs, and who has created a relaxed and informal dining experience with the emphasis on easy meals for the whole family. Fresh local produce is deployed wherever possible, and Nic’s experience with international and local flavours is portrayed in his light and fresh meals.
