Camp Shawu is the essence of a rhythmic Africa

A satellite camp of Shishangeni Private Lodge, Camp Shawu captures the true spirit of Africa in a 15,000ha private concession in the south-eastern section of the Kruger National Park, bordered by the perennial Crocodile River to the south and Mozambique to the east.

Camp Shawu is named after the most famous of the African elephants, the magnificent ‘Shawu bull’ who roamed the valley for sixty years. Shawu commanded respect and admiration from all who behold with the longest tusks ever recorded in South Africa’s history.

The small and intimate camp features an open bar and lounge next to the swimming pool, and elegant accommodation in five luxury twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms, accommodating ten guests. The rooms pride with authentic buffalo dung walls, leather furniture, wood, rich textiles, fire places, ceiling fans and private decks overlooking the Mpanamana Dam, exhibiting a landscaped masterpiece.

This is a birder’s paradise, home to more than 500 species of birds, including the giant eagle owl, kingfishers, storks, shrikes, weavers, herons, eagles, vultures, and kites, all of which can be seen while lounging next to the pool with a cocktail in hand.

Explore Africa’s wildlife in an open vehicle safari with opportunities to spot lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, hippo and crocodile. Return fulfilled and content after absorbing the magical energy and spiritual presence of the bush, closing the day with choice massage treatments on the privacy of your own deck, reminiscing on the wonders of this sanctuary.
