To the uninitiated, Richards Bay is little more than a busy port and industrial hub, but it is in fact a great place to visit with an upbeat vibe and a great natural aura. At first glance, the town seems very flat and structured, but linger for a while and you will uncover an exuberant holiday spirit and fervent conservation ethic with distinctive hotels and lodges, vibey pubs and busy restaurants. Lakes and parks are dotted about the town, allowing the great outdoors in and creating tranquil islands among the urban sprawl, while the town itself is surrounded by nature reserves. The unspoilt beaches of Richards Bay are simply gorgeous and the waterfront properties feature lovely views over lakes, rivers and the ocean. The lagoon is home to hippos, crocodiles and birds, and the amazing Big Five game parks of Zululand are close by, as is the St Lucia Wetland Park.
