The uKhahlamba Barrier of Spears Drakensberg Park, or the berg as it is widely known, is a 200 kilometre stretch of natural wonderland filled with fauna, flora, birds and countless delights for visitors of any age. This was the first South African place nominated as both a Natural and Cultural World Heritage Site, and features a wide range of luxurious hotels and resorts with scenic views and outstanding service. Filled with dramatic cliffs and soaring peaks the berg is one of the few places in South Africa where you can hope to enjoy a white winter. The summer time lures hikers, nature lovers, mountain bikers, golfers and horse riders looking for action, while history buffs scour the mountains for ancient rock art. In the foothills of these beautiful mountains, local entrepreneurs have established the Midlands Meander – where visitors can wander through the countryside sampling the delights of pastoral life. Here you will find arts and crafts stores, scrumptious dining, homemade goods, farm stalls and animal farms.
