Please note there are two proposed travel routes to reach Three Cities Alpine Heath Resort but the quickest route, which involves driving on the road between Harrismith and Three Cities Alpine Heath Resort, is not the easiest road to travel on. So, we would highly recommend that guests taking this route do so only during the day and when travelling this path, to please drive slowly and carefully when approaching the two sets of roadworks en-route.
The slightly longer, alternative route that proceeds on the N3 past Ladysmith consists of much better roads so we recommend that visitors take this route when travelling during misty and low visibility conditions or at night time. Please note that this route adds an additional 80km onto your journey and you are required to go through a toll road. Drivers will be required to take the R616 Bergville off ramp, and at the top of the off ramp turn right towards Bergville. Once Bergville is reached (a 4-way crossing), to turn right onto the R74 towards Harrismith. Drive for +- 30km, until you reach another 4-way crossing
where you will turn left, towards the Northern Drakensberg.
From Durban:
Travel North on the N3 toward Johannesburg. After passing Estcourt Ultra City, take the Bergville, Colenso off-ramp (R74). Alpine Heath is 84km from the off-ramp. Turn left towards Winterton and Bergville. There, turn left towards Northern Berg Resorts. Travel for 6km, then turn right again towards Alpine Heath, The Cavern and Hlalanathi. Three Cities Alpine Heath Resort is 7km along this tarred road.
