Tala Private Game Reserve Proudly Takes Its Place Within The Three Cities Exceptional Hotel Group

In a most promising acquisition, The Three Cities Group welcomes the popular KwaZulu Natal-based Tala Private Game Reserve into their flourishing establishment of hotels and resorts.

With already over 10 Three Cities Safari Lodges acrossAfrica, this renowned wildlife conservancy hidden in the hills of a quiet farming community, takes its pride and place alongside the Three Cities Jozini Tiger Lodge and Exceptional Safaris Makakatana Bay Lodge in KwaZulu Natal.

A wildlife sanctuary, that has been expanding its leisure territory since the late 80s, TALA (appropriately defined as the ‘land of plenty’) now spans over 3 000 hectares. The Game Reserve is well-known for being ideally located for conferences, weddings, celebrations or simply a short retreat to rejuvenate and relax and experience the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush.

Reputed for being a favoured wedding venue, TALA caters for all needs with accommodation styles including four standard lodges; five rustic A-frame rooms; two self-catering cottages and a luxury lodge. TALA also has 10 varied wedding and conference venues and features a spectacular thatched restaurant with a beautifully aged tree as a central element to the décor.

A project that has been in the pipeline for the past two years, John Creighton, Managing Director of the Hotel Division of Three Cities Group explained how the Game Reserve was acquired:

“In September 2011, Tala Game Reserve was purchased by the local government for the Nekumbeleni Community Trust, which had lived in this area since the 1900’s.

The NEF (National Empowerment Fund) authorised funding for the purchase of the moveable assets, however one of the conditions in the sale agreement was to find a reputable hotel company to assist Tala with the day to day operation of this sleeping giant. That’s where we stepped in and recognised the value and heritage that the Tala Game Reserve offers.”

Very much an iconic establishment within the local Eston community, Creighton said he and his team were confident that with The Three Cities team’s right attitude; vision and passion to motivate, professional integrity and delivering exceptional experiences would again become the corner stone of Tala.

Most eager about the new venture and proficient support from The Three Cities Group, Tala Private Game Reserve General Manager Sean Lubbe, said he and the team were keen to inject a new found passion and enthusiasm into the Game Reserve.

Punting it as one of Durban’s finest game reserves, Lubbe said that the reserve features well over 350 bird species and an array of distinctive and remarkable plant species, together with big game that includes kudu, hippo, giraffe and eland.

“There are a number of ways to experience the outdoors at TALA. Game drives with experienced guides and bush walks along the many trails are an exciting way to explore the reserve. With the mix of acacia thornveld, open grassland and sensitive wetland, TALA provides exceptional game watching and birding.”
