Celebrating the start of the festive season, the annual Franschhoek ‘Magic of Bubbles’ Cap Classique and Champagne Festival took place on the weekend of 30 November- 2 December 2012. Award-winning Cape Winelands retreat, Three Cities Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa, joined in on the festivities with a stand featuring exceptional gourmet offerings courtesy of the hotels executive chef, Oliver Cattermole. Now in its sixth consecutive year, the festival showcased some of the best champagnes from France as well as Cap Classique from South African wine makers.
At the event, visitors enjoyed an array of bubbly tastings as well as culinary treats from the surrounding Franschhoek hotels and restaurants. The theme for 2012 was black and white with accents of birds and bows, adding a quirky touch to one of the most prestigious events of the season.
Having developed the culinary direction of Le Franschhoek since he joined the hotel in 2011, Oliver Cattermole prepared three of his favourite dishes in honour of the annual French affair. A selection of sushi platters were also on offer as well as Oliver’s renowned pork pies for those who looking for something more substantial. A highlight of the day was definitely Oliver’s signature macaroons that pair perfectly with a glass of bubbly.
